About us
Businesses and organisations play an essential role in providing employment, goods and services in all human communities. In a rapidly changing world, our goal is to help organisations to adapt and succeed so that their communities may also thrive.
Our training and consulting services engage public, private and voluntary sector organisations in addressing the twin challenges of peak oil and climate change. Our focus is not just today, but also the ability to face these rapidly deepening issues in the future.
We operate through a network of practitioners around the UK, each of whom has extensive professional business and organisational experience. Our practitioners are also very active in their local transition communities and are therefore able to bring ongoing learning and new ideas to their work with organisations.
All of us are unapologetically passionate about developing and disseminating transition-thinking. We represent a new type of professional services organisation for a new economic era, and our organisation is built on the input and contributions of all of our practitioners to best meet the needs of our clients. We operate an open and equitable business model, and our profits further the work of the Transition Network.
Other parts of TTandC provide transition-related services to individuals and communities (for more information click here).
A set of guiding principles underpins everything that we do:
True effectiveness – the paradigm underlying everything we do is based on positive visioning, empowerment, inclusion, systems thinking, minimal fossil-fuel reliance and appropriate re-localisation. We continue to develop this model to best build the resilience of our clients - and therefore also that of the communities in which they operate. Our services support both inner and outer transformation of organisations.
Honesty – we will share the closest version of the truth that we know, in times when the information available is often deeply contradictory. We recognise that we do not have all the answers, and we ensure that informed speculation is not presented as fact. Our messages are non-directive and non-judgemental, respecting each organisation’s ability to make a response that is appropriate to their own situation. We do not over-sell our products and only commit to work that we have capacity to deliver.
Integrity – we seek to transfer knowledge to our clients such that they acquire the skills and tools to manage, plan and execute their own energy descent plan. We will provide every assistance that is requested and within our capacity, but we will not knowingly or willingly create client dependency on our services. We aim to work with clients who can visibly demonstrate their commitment to increasing their organisational resilience (as this will increase their local community’s resilience).
Inclusion - successful and sustainable businesses and organisations are an essential part of local communities, and we will engage with any organisation of any size and sector, but will disengage if we feel that these principles are being compromised.
Walk the talk - we are working to strengthen our own resilience (and of the Transition Network itself), and to be a visible manifestation of the change we want to see. We will implement only equitable, open and fair ways of working with our clients, our practitioners, and our partners. We will develop TTandC so it can operate at the most appropriate, practical and empowering level to achieve the wider aims of transition.
